How to update Mib2 firmware

Hej

Here i will show you how to update firmware on Mib2 units.

First of all you need to recognise your unit. You can do that by checking the correct firmware version.

The best way is by looking on Red Engineering Menu (REM) what’s current firmware version.

From scheme above please choose your car and REM combination.

Please remember that if you just started your car, you might need to wait couple of minutes to all systems go up and they are ready to use – otherwise you will not be able to enter REM or GEM.

From main menu

Press and hold correct combination to enter REM

When you are in this Red Engineering Menu (REM) scroll down and go inside Version information.

Current version will show you your current firmware version.

If you have MHI2 or MHI2Q, this manual it’s for you!

Firmware files

Here’s a list for most current firmware updates:

Europe / RoW

USA / Canada

IMPORTANT

Do not mix the firmwares I mean, if your car have MHI2_ER_AUG22_xxx you cannot install MHI2_ER_AUG35 or MHI2Q_ER_AUG22 – you need to pay attention for first type MHI2/MHI2Q and AUG/AU57

So if you have:

  • MHI2_ER_AUG22_P0010 you can install only MHI2_ER_AUG22_K3344

only in Audi A6/A7/A8 can change if you have MHI2_ER_AUG22 to MHI2_ER_AU57x.

If you worry about choosing correct firmware, send us your current firmware and we will send you correct links.

How to deal with files?

When you download all files you will see that there’s few parts (mostly 4 or 5 7z parts.).

Make sure you have all files in same place (for example Mid2 firmware folder).
To unpack files you will need 7zip application – you can download it from 7zip.org for free.

When you have already installed 7zip, go to the firmware files. Click on first file (with ending: 7z.001) with right mouse click and select Extract to “filename…”

This might take some time to unpack the files.

then you can start preparing SD CARD.

How to prepare SD CARD for Mib2 firmware update

Firmware update usually takes around 4GB of space, so you can use 8 or 16GB SD CARD.

SD CARD must be formatted as FAT32 – otherwise MMI might not read it!

For macOS users please take a look here (click)

When you have formatted your SD CARD to FAT32 now you need to copy files on to SD.

To do that, go inside newly unpacked files – you should see new folder with files inside:

all you need to do now is select all those files (1, 2 metainfo2) and copy directly on to SD CARD.

THOSE FILES MUST BE DIRECTLY ON SD, WITHOUT ANY PARENT FOLDER. WHEN YOU ENTER SD YOU MUST SEE ABOVE FILES DIRECTLY

This process might take up to 15 minutes – depends on how fast is your SD CARD. After moving files, you can jump to the car  (do not forget to take your SD with maps).

Audi MMI Mib2 firmware update

When you are in car, start your engine and wait about 5-10 minutes. All systems must be ready to use – otherwise you might not be able to enter REM (Red Engineering Menu).

If you have bose audio system please do this first!

If you have bought this bundle pack (click) or this firmware which have apple carplay / android auto activation (click) you can skip this step – bose has been disabled by default.

You can use fibre optic loop part no.: 4E0973802 / 4E0 973 802

you need to locate Bose amplifier in boot, disconnect cable and connect this loop to the cable disconnected from bose amplifier.

You can also try enter Green engineering menu (GEM) go to the swdl and tick the User defined mode

Hidden green menu > SWDL > user defined mode

Insert your SD CARD with firmware update in to SD1 slot.

after that enter the REM (Red Engineering Menu)

But now need to select Update option

in another screen select SD CARD 1

now MMI will scan the SD CARD and if it’s prepared correctly it will show you the firmware update, in another screens

If you have bose audio system (for standard audi audio do not need to do this)

in next screen need select User Defined, then on next list try to find BoseG3_Q7 or BoseG3_  or BSG3C7_ANC or BO_Q7 / BO_D4 / BO_C7 / AMP_LC_P (depends of car model you have, always will be starting with BSG/Bose/BO) and take every tick off until there is a letter N near Bose. To do it, you need to enter to this item, and change near all items to N in all second rows. So, finally near Bose should stand N.

This is very important –  don’t forget to make it.  and click Start download.

Update process will take around 20-30 minutes. Do not leave the car alone, do not turn off. Just wait.

MMI will reboot automatically few times.

After searching for over a year for an upgrade to my A6 2018 I finally landed on the right place. I have just bought the software for android auto and have upgraded successfully. It all went like a breeze, within 30 minutes it was all up and running. Very much pleased with the interface. Bravo!!!!!
